Meeting a blogger: Part 1
June 25, 2007 by London Spengler
First (and fast) the promotional information… I have a nice shop here that sells a hud that let’s you keep permissions to do a lot of funny things (sorry about the thumbnail, I am not at home and had to take the picture from SL Exchange).
Now, the post:
You know how it is, there is somebody whose work you like… a designer, a writer, etc. Even without being a celebrity hunter (the “I have xxxx on my friend list!” type) you think it whould be nice to meet him, but how? You cannot simply send an IM saying “I like your work, can you send me a tp?”… Oooooookey, maybe YOU can do it, but I can’t :-p.
My luck is most of my favorite creators are bloggers and, since I’ve becomed a blogger, it gives me the perfect excuse to address my “colleagues”. Who should be my first victim? There is an awfull lot of bloggers I’d like to meet.
I believe that if you are going to assault somebody because of what he does, his work should appeal to you in an emotional way. Yes, yes, I admit I am a feeling junkie but the idea seems logical, since there is at least an unidirectional link to help you. Of course, if it happens that that person seems to like your own work, we aren’t talking about unidirectionality anymore.
That maked things much easier… dandellion Kimball and Katrina Mishow had been posting comments like crazy (nice ones, too :-), so I assumed they liked what they readed, and, of course, I love their blogs. Katrina made it even easier with this phrase in one of her comments: “We still haven’t met in world.. We ought to some time!”
So, after a time browsing my inventory I choosed something nice, but not too nice, since Katrina has dangerous teasing streak, sended an IM and she ported me. Soon I discovered my mistake… she was even nicer that I had thought and, even if I don’t have time for new friends (you can see my rant here), some people is simply too good to let them go.
…
Enough for today, there is much to say and I’ll continue writing tomorrow :-)
(note: if you found this post browsing the “Point of view” category, you should know the second one is under the “Love and Sex” one :-p).

What is wrong with sending IM or notecard? I get your thought on “I cannot do it” but in the era of myspace it seems we can relax our social behaviour a bit. I mean, just few years ago, some ppl whose work I really like and adore were untouchable. Now, I have them on friend’s list, it is not problem to send them message and, if it is not typical “hi, I like your work.” they usually respond.
btw, we could make a party or picnic or something….
I am so old fashioned that not only I don’t use MySpace, I hate when the phone rings! *smiles* But I didn’t think about leaving a notecard; that is much less intrusive, like the difference between Messenger and the e-mail.
Anyway, I am not saying that popular people are untochable, but there is a problem… if one tenth of my readers sends me a notecard, I can answer then in five minutes… (77 wonderfull, adorable readers, I love each one of you… what are you waiting for? bring some friends!) but a popular writer can have thousands! I remember when Vint appeared at the bloggers party, and after a bit commented she was distracted because she was being swarmed by IMs.
Anyway, you probably are right and is a pity not to address somebody you like because you are afraid of being annoying… of course you can always try to give them a hint so they invite you… btw, I love picnics *smiles*.
Oohhhh! A picnic! I say we find a nice beach somewhere (preferably nude.. ::snickers.::) and have a picnic! Maybe we should suggest that to the rest of the blogger group for the next blog party.. Hrm..
Anyway, I was expecting you to put in a little more information then this. Lol. ::Shifty eyes. Winks at her.:: But I won’t take the fire by trying to say what happened, before you post it. I’m curious to what you put up, and would like to say you can post all you want about it. ::Nods.::
Kat, all good wines need time to mature… you can count with a second and a third part, and maybe more… I want to play for a while with this post before going for the killing *mews* ;-)
Ooohhh. Kill! ::Giggles.:: You sound like Maya did for a while there. <.< ::Pounces, munches on her head, purring at the mew.:: Play with it as long as you want to. Will be interesting to see what you say. ^.~
Awww! It uses html, but it doesn’t let me use the html for the lesser then signs? Grrrr. I dun like this thing. ::Pouts. Pokes at wordpress.::
