I have been doing a small inventory cleaning; old hairs I didn’t use anymore, salvaging outfits (into separate pieces, like shirts and so on) and deleting/giving away around 3.000 items.
It took me five days to reduce my inventory to 5K-ish items and arrange everything in a comprehensive way, and yesterday I went to bed around five of morning… which means I got two sweet hours of sleep *winks with poooofy eyes*.
It is very hard to mercilessly remove things, and even more when they aren’t transfer, but having little and knowing it means using it right; when you have a 40k inventory (*coughs* Why the word “Quaintly” comes to my mind?) or more, you may lose great items simply because they are buried under everything else. I know I did, finding awesome thingies in my inventory.
Of course, when you know when you have you also risk to know what you miss. For example, a while ago I arranged this outfit for a date:
The shirt is Barerose’s Streaks and I don’t like much the see-trough, but I needed the tie (must edit it someday and separate it from the shirt neck :-). Pants are Black Skull jeans from Decadent Designs, and the shoes that I am almost wearing are the awesome Bellucci from Indi Designs (50 prim each, I had to rezz them at a sandbox to do the joining). I think it looks great (hey, it is me in it!) but we just started the fun *smiles*.
I combined it with the Killersticks shirt from Punk’d, to “open” the shirt. Of course they are different, and now I have sorted my inventory I know I really can’t do it any better, so I NEED a good set of shirts that can work as closed, half open and, err, well, full open? Any idea where can I get it? I have some naughty sets from WWI, but none in the shirt category. And anyway, why stop at the shirt?
The Black Skull jeans from Decadent Designs have an open version, called Black Skull unbuttoned jeans, so I bought two… and as you can see… the panties have a zipper! Yes, they are the Black Latex Open Panties from INSOLENCE’s Misty line, and can be opened too… and yes, I don’t know when to stop and threw them to the lot; but of course the result is absolutely NSFW so, if you want to see it you will have to follow me after the cut :-p

The truth is I didn’t feel too at ease with posting the last picture; at first I decided to only share it with some friends…
… but after some days thinking about it, the cut was so great that at the end I wasn’t able to avoid the temptation when I wrote the post :-p
I simply love the see-through shirt in combination with your striped skin!!!
But if you prefer it opened anyway, I can recommend the buttoned down shirt by Sn@tch. Although it is not completely opened but far enough *winks* and it has a huge choice of colours in one package :)

I am still arguing with myself about some things. “You never wear it”; “But it is cute!”; “So? You never wear it”; “But you never know when you might need it!”; “It’s taking up space in your inventory”; “Hey, I paid good money for it!” -_-”
I already threw out all my handbags because I never use them. Hair jewels, feather boas I’ve kept although I don’t use them either. What am I going to doooooooo *looks despairing*

Zippora, I checked at Sn@tch (runned there, to be true :-) and I think I found the open shirt, but it doesn’t have a closed alternative. What I want is the possibility to “opening” it :-)
Quaintly, I feel so guilty :-p. I did more or less the same, but keeping one or two units of those things I don’t use (for example, a handbag, a boa, a wrist watch, and so) and putting them in a folder called “accesories”. And I will love the ties!

I usually wear a sexy bra under those shirts and remove them when I want it more “open” :P
*looks in wonder at the other comments* Every few months I throw away all the boxes that I’ve never unpacked. Works quite good.
I have slightly over 14k inventory, and while my clothing folder (except for “Incoming”) is halfway sorted, especially “Objects” goes out of hand. I also considered to delete “Notecards” and “Landmarks” altogether.

I store everything I have in numbered folders, and so if something appear out of them (usally at Clothing or Objects) I know I have to process/unpack it quickly; wich isn’t so easy is to avoid it piling up.
I don’t have problems with my notecards folder (I read and then delete most of them), but I still need to re-organice my landmarks in smaller folders, so I can give away one without getting over SL transfer limit.
Still, there is a huge black spot at my inventory, the Animations folder, since I keep it full with lots of freebies that I may use for future proyects… so I try to ignore it, and tread lightly when I can’t :-p
My inventory is only 8k but has several black holes, lol. When the mess got to big I started putting everything in a folder called “old stuff” or “unsorted” and started sorting new items (which I’ve done quite consequently since).
The result is that I now have half of my inventory sorted (mostly newer items) and next to that I have folders like “old clothing”, “old landmarks”, “unsorted objects” that also contain useful items.
And I’d better not mention the pile of objects laying around loose in my “objects” or inventory folder…. I tend to ignore those :P
Oh, I tried to do that for a while but it meaned that, for some months, I had a huuuuge folder with “general” clothing and a tendency to wear only new items :-p
